[following text deleted in corrections in CP XIV]: 1088: took prominent part in rebellion against William Rufus in favor of Duke Robert, invaded Gloucestershire, and destroyed the town of Berkeley. [Ref: CP V p153 (with corr in XIV p311)]

1092: succeeded his father as Count of Eu [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p373]

1095: participated in Moubray;'s plot to kill Rufus and to place the Count of Aumale on the throne [Ref: CP V p153]

1095: implicated in the revolt against William II, he was denounced and condemned as a trator; his cousin and steward William of Audrie met a more merciful death by hanging at the same time [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p477]

1095: arrested and condemned for treason [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p470]

[following text deleted in corrections in CP XIV]: at Council of Salisbury in Jan 1095/6 he was charged with treason as one of the conspirators in 1095, and having been vanquished in single combat by his accuser, was condemned to be blinded and (at the instance of Earl Hugh) emasculated. Must have died then or soon afterwards [Ref: CP V p154 (with corr in XIV p311)]

most of the land he held in Domesday Book was given to Roger fitz Richard de Clare, becoming the honour of Striguil [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p477]
