Research Notes:
came to America in 1793. He was an umcompromising Protestand and a member of
the Presbyterian Church. He was originally a weaver by occupation and later
turned his attention to farming. [Ref: LorimorJS LORIMOR p13]
quote from J.S. Lorimor:
"My understanding is, that he was being or about to be pressed into the
English army, perhaps standing army, and rather than go, he came to America.
His record gives the date 1793, and the following year his wife and four
children came to America to join him, leaving one child buried in Ireland.
"He took ship to come to America in 1793. While crossing the sea having
reached America, he was about to step into a boat near the landing, when the
boar shoved out, not being carefully held by the sailors, and Hugh Lorimor
fell overboard. He was drawn out by his cue or long plait of hair.
"He gave a stockingleg full of money to the Captain of the ship, in sending
for his wife and children, to pay their passage. The wife and children landed
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they were met by Hugh Lorimor. About the
year 1812 they emigrated to Western Pennsylvania, locating on Buffalo Creek in
Washington County, near what is now the village of Claysville, PA."
