Research Notes:
1811: United Presbyterian congretation of South Buffalo was organized. The original members were from Buffalo (or North Buffalo) Associated Presbyterian congregation. The following are the original members: .... John Milligan, ... Alexander Sawhill, ... William Sawhill. [Ref: Keyhole Jul94 SoBuffaloChurch]

bagan married life on a farm not far from the home of their parents. It was about seven miles east of the Borough of Claysville. Here they lived for about seven years, and here five of their children were born. [Ref: SawhillDB SAWHILL p21]

About 1827 or 1828 they moved to a farm in Blaine Township, about four or five miles northeast of the Borough of Claysville to a farm later owned by their son, John, whose son John McClesse Sawhill resided for many years. On moving, they transferred their membership from South Buffalo Church to North Buffalo Church, but did not mean a change of pastors, as the Rev. David French was the pastor of both churches. On the marble stone marking the grave of William SAWHILL is found this inscription: William Sawhill / Died November 7, 1864 in the 67th year of his age. On the pedistal is carved the following: "Also in remembrance of his son, H. L. Sawhill, who was killed in battle at Gaines Hill, Virginia, June 27, 1862, age 22 years and 8 months."
