Research Notes:
The 1619 Visitation of Kent states that Sibyl Lewknor, wife of Sir William Scott, was the daughter of Sir Thomas Lewknor. Most modern sources [WTM: e.g. Faris PA2 p150, Richardson PA p335] accept the parentage of Sibyl found in Scott _Memorials of the Fam of Scott_ (1876) p144 which asserts that Sibyl was daughter and heiress of Sir Thomas Lewknor's brother, Sir John Lewknor... Scott appears to base this on the belief that Sibyl was heiress of Brabourne, Kent, which was part of the inheritance of Sir John Lewknor's wife Joan Halsham. However, Joan died childless in 1495. So Sibyl could not have been daughter of Sir John Lewknor, nor was she the heiress of Brabourne. Rather it appears that the manor of Brabourne came to the Scott family by gift or purchase sometime in or before 1504 [Ref: Richardson MCA p351]
