----- Obitrary appeared in Democratic Republican, 16 Dec 1843, and also Crawford Democrat 19 Dec 1843:
DIED -- at his residence, in South Shenango township, in this county, on Monday the 4th inst, James MASON, Esq, after a painful illness of ten hours, in the sixty-fifth year of his age. Mr Mason was one of the earliest settlers of this county, having immigrated to if from Lyucoming county in 1795, commenced his improvement on the farm on which he died. At the time of his settlement, this and the adjoining counties were literally a wilderness. [Ref: Wilson MASON p84]
