Obituary from the Sterling Journal-Advocate: Funeral is Wednesday for Dorothy L. Monroe 67 of 602 Fairhurst St. She died Friday, February 7, 1992 at Sterling Regional Med Center. Rev. John Roberts of the First Baptist Church is officiating for the 10 A.M. closed casket service at his church. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation and viewing is until 9 A.M. Wednesday at Chaney-Walters Funeral Home.
Mrs. Monroe was born March 10, 1924 in Hamilton, MO to James and Gladys (Bratcher) Clark. She graduated from high school in Rock Port, MO. On August 9, 1943 she married Donnis Arnold in Rock Port. They moved to Merino in 1969 and he died in October 1971.
She married C.E. "Tex" Monroe in October 1973. They lived in Meino until 1975, when they moved to Sterling. Mrs. Monroe was a member of Does Drove 213 and a supporter of local and state Elks activities.
Survivors include her husband of Sterling; her mother, of Sterling; a son Jerry Arnold and wife Becky of Sterling; four daughters, Sheryl Ortiz and husband Mike of Littleton, Gayle Unrein and husband Ray of Sterling, Mary Ann Monroe and Barbara Mateues and husband Emil, all of San Diego; a sister Nellie Finnigan of Nebraska and seven grandchildren, Terry, Chris and Eryn Ortiz of Littleton, Brandie and Jamie Unrein and Cassi and Stacey Arnold, all of Sterling.
She was preceded in death by a brother, J.E. Clark and her father, Chaney-Walters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Contributions to High Plains Easter Seal Society. [Ref: Ray Brodbeck 7/29/2008]
