Obituary appeared in Ottawa Daily Republican Times, 25 Apr 1931:
George Brodbeck 76 died at 1:15 A.M. this morning following a four week illness which followed an attach of influenza and complications. However, blood poisoning of an arm is believed to have been the direct cause of death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Seals Funeral Home by J.W. Payne, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Besides his widow he is survived by a son, Walter Brodbeck, with whom he resided, and two daughters, Miss Blanche Brodbeck of Downers Grove and Mrs. Grace Mitchell of North Prairie, both of a former marriage. The following brothers and sisters also survive, Charles Brodbeck of Kinsley, Kansas, Archie Brodbeck of Galesburg, Illinois; Mrs Annie Clauser of Chicago,, Mrs. Laura Wood of Illif, Colorado and Mrs. Amanda Barber of Marseilles.
The decedent was the son off George and Eliza Brodbeck. He was born at Rome, Illinois. For fifty years his mother, who was at one time a leading merchant of this city, conducted a dry goods store in the building now occupied by Beulah Timmons. For the past eight years, Mr Brodbeck had been employed at the National Biscuit Company. He was a charter member of the Odd Fellow's Lodge and the Methodist Episcopal Church.
