Research Notes:
Obituary appeared in Marseilles Plaindealer:
At five minutes to 3o'clock yesterday afternoon, Mrs. George Brodbeck died
very suddenly of apoplexy, at her home on the Bluff, east Marseilles.
Yesterday was the fifteenth anniversary of her marriage and that happy event
was celebrated Saturday night by a surprise party at her home by friends and
relatives. Mrs. Brodbeck appeared jovial and happy and not the faintest
suspicion entered the minds of guests that tomorrow, the fifteenth anniversary
of her marriage, would bring death and sorrow. Had she lived five minutes
longer, she would have died upon the exact hour of her marriage.
Mrs. Brodbeck had been slightly ailing for about a week but had not been
confined to her bed at any time. Sunday morning she arose as usual, but as the
afternoon advanced , was take suddenly ill. Dr. Blanchard was called but he
realized that nothing could be done for her and that the end was near. When
Mrs. Brodbeck's mother arrived at 1 o'clock, the dying woman failed to
recognize anyone. Mrs. Brodbeck was a very large and fleshy woman.
Miss Cora Dray was born at Chillicothe, Illinois in 1861 and lacked a few
months of being 35 years of age. She married at the place of her birth to
George Brodbeck of Marseilles in 1881. Her husband and two daughters, Grace
and Blanche, age 7 and 04 years, survive her.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow from her late home at 2 o'clock P.M.,
Rev. Logan of the M E Church officiating. [Ref: Ray Brodbeck 7/29/2008]
