Obituary appeared in Kinsley Mercury, 2 Mar 1944:
Frank Brodbeck was born December 7, 1871 to John and Amanda Madden at Rome,
Illinois. He died at Kinsley Kansas February 22, 1944 at the age of 72 years,
two months and fifteen days.
As a young man he was associated with his father in the wholesale commission
business, but ill health forced him to choose a different climate and
occupation. He joined the outdoor world of circus and carnival and spent much
of his life in show business. He was personally acquainted with many of the
great pioneers of that world. Widely traveled, he gathered an inexhaustible
store of anecdotes and reminiscences. Expert in the care and handling of wild
animals., he was for some time associated with a well known animal importing
house near the Mexican border. In his later years, he came to look upon
Kinsley as his home, For the past several months he had served the city as
night marshal, faithfully discharging his duties in spite of rapidly failing
health.
He is survived by a brother, Edward of Peoria, Illinois, an aunt, Mrs.
Amanda Barber of Marseilles, Illinois, an uncle, Mr. Charles Brodbeck of
Hutchison and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Mc Killip Funeral
Chapel. Internment was in the Kinsley Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers were C.H.
Kirkbride, E.S. Gordley, John Wire, Ted Kerns, Harry Kerns and Hollis Craft.
