SP 2:138 identifies the wife of Sir Patrick de Hepburn as "a daughter and co-heir of the family of Vaux or de Vallibus, Lords of Dirlton," but does not give her father's name. SP 4:332 identifies the wife of John Haliburton as "a daughter and cp-heires of William de Vaux, Lord of Dirleton." However, atSP 9:101 (corrections), the information on John Haliburton's wife is deleted. Balbirnie writes that William Vaux succeeded his father in about 1364, and died in 1392, when he was succeeded by two co-heiresses. One married John Halyburton, and the other married Sir Patrick Hepburn. However, Balbirnie write, it is unclear whether they were daughters of William as well as his co-heiresses.
