inherited Barony of Marshwood from mother [Ref: Sanders Baronies p42]

1160s: occurs in Pipe Rolls associated with Hampshire, Devon and Dorset [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p854]

1172: was charged the scutage which was owed by his father [Ref: Sanders Baronies p42]

1190s: his inheritance was disputed by Geoffrey II de Mandeville. The problem was eventually resolved in 1205 when Henry joined the French and Harptree went to the Mandevilles [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p854, Keats-Rohan DD p920]

1194: tenure of Marshwood questioned by Geoffrey de Mandeville, son of Robert [Ref: Sanders Baronies p42]

1201: William, son of Geoffrey, renewed the claim for Marshwood [Ref: Sanders Baronies p42]

1202: called upon to pay scutage on 14 3/4 knights' fees for Barony of Marshwood [Ref: Sanders Baronies p42]

1203: sheriff of Devonshire answered for the scutage due on Henry's lands [Ref: Sanders Baronies p42(5)]

in conflict in Normandy, Henry cast his lot with Philip Augustus, and in 1205 it was ordered that the honour of Marshwood be restored to Robert de Mandeville, presumably son of William [Ref: Sanders Baronies p42]
