Lancaster County PA Wills J-185, dated 1 Jul 1806, pro 1 Sep 1806:
In the name of God, Amen. I George Musser of the Borough of Lancaster in the
County of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, tanner, being sick and weak in
body, but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, and calling to
mind the uncertainty of human life, and that it is ordered for all men once to
die, I therefore make my last will and testament in manner following, to wit,
First, I order and it is my will that all my just debts and funeral expenses
be paid and discharged by my executors out of my estate as soon as
conveniently may be after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved
wife Christina the sum of eight hundred pounds money in gold or silver coin,
to be paid to her as soon as can be after my decease, and I also give unto my
said wife, such and so much of my household and kitchen furniture as she may
think suitable and necessary for her use and desire, that she may make her
choice of what she shall think needful before an inventory is taken of my
household and kitchen furniture; this trust I place in her, being sensible of
her love for our children and assured that she will not injure them, to hold
the said sum of money and other articles above mentioned unto my said wife
Christina her heirs and assigns forever. Item I order and it is my will that
my executors and the survivor of them shall as soon as can be after my decease
purchase a comfortable dwelling house for my said wife out of my estate to
hold the said house and ground thereto belonging unto my said wife for and
during the term of her natural life if she remains my widow, but nevertheless
my said wife must allow my daughter Sarah to live with her in the same house
as long as she remains a single woman, and if my wife should die or marry,
then my said daughter Sarah shall possess the said house and premises for and
during the time she remains a single woman, and after the death of marriage of
my said wife and daughter Sarah then my executors and the survivor of them
shall sell the said house and ground thereto belonging either by private or
public sale as to them or him may seem most beneficial for my children. Item
it is my will and I order that all my real estate (consisting of my two story
dwelling house, tan yard and lot or lots of ground thereto belonging, two lots
opposite my said dwelling house, one lot in Water Street, my plantation and
out lots in Manheim township, and some back lands) shall be sold by my
executors and the survivor of them as soon as conveniently may be after my
decease, wither by private or public sale, but nevertheless that my said wife
shall live in my dwelling house until a house is purchased for her as
aforesaid, and in case my executors should find that my said house with the
tan yard and premises thereto belonging could not be sold to advantage then
they may lease the same for some time to my sons, and upon their refusal to
any other person, until they can sell it to advantage, and the residue of my
personal estate shall also be sold as soon as can be. And it is my will and I
do hereby declare that the bequests, legacies, and things by me herein given
to my said wife are and are to be deemed and taken in full satisfaction for
her dower or thirds, and right and title to dower or thirds, and all claims
and demand whatsoever of in to and out of my estate real and personal. Item
The rest residue and remainder of my estate including therein all the monies
raised by the sale of my said real and personal estate and also the monies
which shall arise form the sale of the house and ground herein ordered to be
purchased for my said wife and daughter Sarah after the death or marriage of
my said wife and daughter; and also the produce and amount of all other my
estate real and personal, not herein before particularly given and bequeathed,
and also including all such monies and effects which I have heretofore given
to my children or to some of them, and by me entered in a book kept for that
purpose, I order to be equally divided amongst my eleven children, to wit,
Rebecca the wife of Henry Dering, Mary the wife of John Singer, Sarah Musser,
George Musser, Catharine the wife of William Haberstick, Mathias Musser, John
Adam Musser, William Musser, Henry Musser, Abraham Musser, and Harriet Musser;
that is to say, I give and bequeath to each of my said children and to each of
their heirs and assigns forever, one equal eleventh part thereof. And lastly I
do hereby nominate make and appoint my friends Matthias Young and William Webb
executors of this my last will and testament, with full power and authority to
make execute and deliver the proper deeds of conveyance for granting and
assuring the real estate by me ordered to be sold, unto the purchaser or
purchasers therein in fee simple. Hereby making void all former and other
wills by me made declaring this and no other to be my last will and testament.
