Research Notes:
Lord of Great Bealings [Ref: Sanders Baronies p48]
his byname "Bituricensis" normally means "from Berry or its capital Bourges",
but it is highly unlikely that Herve came to England from Berry, though his
ancestors may have done. But the name might represent a play on "bitricus"
meaning "wren"; this byname had been borne by Eudo, natural son of Alan III of
Brittany, and by Rainald, son of Hugh de Merderel [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p253]
relative of Peter Bituricensis, whose lands also descended to the Peche
family as heirs of Herve [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p254]
abt 1075: acquired the lands held at Domesday; most if not all had earlier
been held from Ely Abbey by William son of Gorham, a Breton who fell in the
revolt of 1075 [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p253]
1086: Domesday tenant-in-chief "Herueus Bituticensis" [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP
