political leader, merchant, and member of the Council of Mass [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p43]

during the war he wrote patriotic orations in the Boston press, but he gained his reputation in 1786 by a series of Observations on the Pernicious Practice of the Law signed "Honestus," exposing the evil conditions of legal procedure in the Commonwealth, and demanding the abolition of lawyers and the exclusion of English common law. [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p43]

Apr 1820: confined about three weeks with a most severe and painful disease which he endured without a mummur. He retained his senses to the last and met death with the composure of a Christian and the Firmness of a man. Family Bible quoted in [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p42]
