Nathaniel was a staunch Patriot, Margaret was a spirited Tory and never failed to characterize each observance of Bunker HillDay as "the celebration of a defeat" [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p39]

last man in Charlestown to own slaves. At one time he had two slaves, a negro named Pompey and his wife. Later he freed a slave, possibly Pompey, who took the name of John AUSTIN as a mark of affection for his old master, and opened a barber shop in State St., Boston. [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p39]
