Will of John Patton, in Fayette County Will Book 4, p11:
In the name of God Amen. I John Patton of Fayette County in the township of
Washington, farmer, being of sound mind and memory and considering the
uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do therefore make ordain publish
and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following. That
is to say, I order that all my just debts funeral expenses and charges of
proving this my will be in the first place fully paid and satisfied and
payment thereof and every part thereof. I give and bequeath unto my son Hiram
Patton my farm containing one hundred and two and a half acres more or less
with all the appurtenances thereunto connected together with all my interest
in the wagon and all farming utensils as well as all the grain I have or may
have at my decease by the said Hiram Patton paying to sons and daughters
herein named the following sums, to wit: Joseph Patton one hundred dollars,
Stephen Patton one hundred dollars, Henry Patton one hundred dollars, Thomas W
Patton one hundred dollars. Martha Lutz five dollars, Ellen Wright one
hundred dollars the payment to be made in six months after my decease and I do
hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son Hiram Patton and John Brown Esq
executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills
by me made. In witness thereof I the testator have set my hand and seal this
day March 27th one thousand eight hundred and sixty two. John Patton.
Signed sealed published and ordered by the same testator as and for his last
will and testament in the presence of us who in his presnce and at his request
and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses
thereto. J. F. Patton, William Patton
State of Pennsylvania, Fayette County. Be it remembered that on this 16th
day of August A.D. 1862 personally appeared before me James Darby register
for the probate ofices and granting letters of administration in and for same
county, J. F. Patton and William Patton the subscribing witnesses to an
instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of John
Patton deceased late of Washington Township in said county. J. F. being sworn
William Patton being affirmed did declare and say that they were present and
saw the said testator John Patton sign seal and heard him declare the same to
be his last will and testament when of sound mind memory and understanding
that they signed said will as witnesses thereunto by the request of the said
testator and in his presence and in the presence of each other, that they knew
of no undue influence now or later will mae by same testator. In witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal of the Registers office of same
county this 16th day of August A.D. 1862. James Darby, Register.
