Research Notes:
"Old Pioneer Citizen Dead," The Evening Times, Cumberland, MD (24 May 1906) J. G. Witt, Wellersburg, Died This Morning. First Death In Family. His Oldest Child is 66 and the Youngest 46 Years of Age Lived Where He Was Born All His Life Oldest Child is Now 66.
Mr. J. G. Witt, the pioneer merchant at Wellersburg, pa., near Mt. Savage, this county, died at 3 o'clock this morning, aged 84 years.
The deceased was a life ling resident of the place and was a wagonmaker by occupation. He is survived by a wife and four children and was the first death in his own immediate family. His oldest child is 66 years of age, and the youngest 46 years old. Mrs. Witt is 82 years old.
The deceased was an upright citizen and highly respected by all who knew him. The children are Mrs. A. Gessner, Wellersburg; J W. Witt and Levi Witt, both of Roanoke, Va., and G. W. Witt, of Wellersburg.
The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock Saturday morning from the Lutheran church at Wellersburg, of which the deceased was a member. Mrs. Witt was formerly Miss Shaffer. [Ref: Merikay Mestad 8/8/2009]
