abt 1777 built a fort and was named lieutenant in the militia [Ref: Bell
WOLF-95 p150]
1778 Jul 6 named Lieutenant in the Ohio County Militia. He had built a fort
about 1777 around his cabin. It was never attacked by Indians, although in
Sep 1782 an attack was made on Rice's fort about 10 miles to the west.
The fort was just south of present US40, 5 miles west of Washington [Ref: Bell

Court records of Ohio County list Jacob and Christian in 1778 in a land
dispute with McBRIDE. [Ref: Bell WOLF-84 p1]
Family tradition tells of Jacob being driven from his cabin by Indians and on
returning finding James McBRIDE living in it. The two men decided to settle
with their fists and Wolf won. Whether this is true or not, in the 1778 Ohio
County court record is an ejectment suit by James McBride against Jacob and
Christian Wolf [Ref: Bell WOLF-84 p8]
name listed in call given to Rev. Joseph SMITH by the congregation of Buffalo
and Cross Creek - Presbyterian - on June 21 1779 [Ref: Bell WOLF-84 p2]
Nov 2 1779 roads were ordered laid out from Jacob WOLF's west to Claysville
(Thomas WALLER's) and east to Washington (Ohio-Yohogania county line). On
Jun 6 1780 Ohio County court gave Jacob permission to open an ordinary
(tavern) and post these rates: breakfast or supper $4, dinner $6, lodging,
clean sheets $3, quart strong beer $4, half pint whisky $6 (with sugar $8)
horse overnight with hay $6, pasturage $3, gallon corn $5, gallon oats $4.
This was during the high inflation of 1780, so the prices tell little.
James CLEMENS was surety for the Wolf ordinary [Ref: Bell WOLF-84 p9]
Mar 9 1782 Jacob bought (Deed book A, p35) from John SAYLOR a tract of land in
Strabane (now Canton) Twp. Included in the sale were 2 horses, 8 cows, 5 hogs
and grain. Saylor may have been leaving because of Indian threats. William
WOLF was a witness to the deed. On this Saylor land were living Peter Jr in
1783 and John from 1788. [Ref: Bell WOLF-84 p9]
This land had not been warranted, so John had to buy it Apr 13 1789 (Deed Book
G, p71), 355 acres for 532.10.0 from Kennedy MORTON of Washington. Morton had
patented it 18 days earlier. Morton named the survey "Wolf" [Ref: Bell
