lived in Ipswich until after 1667, and subsequently in Topsfield, on the farm which his father conveyed to him by deed June 13 1671. Ipswitch Registry of Deeds Book 4 page 114, quoted in [Ref: Perley HOVEY p19]

The house was probably built before 1663, and was gone in 1709. He built a new house near the old site before the latter date, and lived in it [Ref: Perley HOVEY p19]

prominent in town affairs. tithing man in 1682, pounder 1694, assessor 1694, constable 1672, treasurer 1672, selectman 1678, 1680, 1684, 1686, 1689, and 1692, grandjuror 1690, representative to general court 1704. Mar 2 1676-7 he was one of two chosed by the town to see to the mending of fences. Jan 1680 he was one of a committee chosen to treat with a new minister. Mar 2 1680-1 he was chosen to view some land. Mar 10 1680-1 he was chosen to erect a gallery in the meeting house. Jul 15 1681 he was chosen one of two to inform Rev. Mr. Danforth of the invitation of the town to settle in the ministry in Topsfield. Sep 1 1681 he was hosen to view some land for the town. Mar 4 1683-4 he was chosen one of a committee to lay out a highway from Rowley to Topsfield. Apr 22 1684 he was chosen one of a committee to settle the town line with Ipswich. May 16 1684 he was one of a committee to provide for the ordination of Rev. Joseph Capen. Mar 3 1684-5 he was chosen with others to run the Salem line. Mar 2 1685-6 he was chosen to lay out some land to Mr. Capen, and to renew the parsonage bounds. Apr 16 1686 he was chosen to perambulate the Salem line. Jan 25 1686-7 he was chosen to repair the gallery in the meeting house. Apr 6 1687 and Jan 14 1689-90 he was chosen to "seat" the meeting house. Mar 4 1689-90 he was chosen one of a committee to settle the town line with Boxford. Mar 7 1692-3 he was chosen to view a highway and to lay out a highway. [Ref: Perley HOVEY p19-20]
