when a small boy moved to Locomton, about 9 miles from Lawrence, Kansas [Ref:

Apr 28 1863: started for California. Went to Lawrence and bought a
pistol of C.G.Willett; Left for Kansas City at 2:50pm and arrived at
4:50pm; bought emigrant tickets for $60.50 arriving in Ogden 2:00am May 7
1873. Left Ogden at 7:00am and passed Salt Lake City before dark.
Friday May 9 the train crossed the Sierra Mountains arriving in
Sacremento at 4:00pm. Saturday May 10 arrived in San Francisco [Ref:

Nov 3 1873: took 2200 sheep to keep on shares, and started for Stockton,
CA; established his first sheep camp not far from Stockton [Ref: BlayneyCO
BLAYNEY p271]
moved to Millerton, the old county seat of Fresno Co, and was the first white
man to enter Blayney Meadows. This beautiful meadow was called to his
attention by an old Indian who was engaged by Mr Blayney to guide his herds
into the high mountains. At that time it was very difficult to get into the
meadows, and a bridge had to be built by felling trees in order to take their

1885: moved to Fowler, CA, where he engaged in extensive farming [Ref:

Dec 5 1886: one of charter members of First Presbyterian Church of
