WILL OF DAVID REID OF WARREN CO KENTUCKY
In the name of God amen I David Reid of the County of Warren& Commonwealth of Kentucky being weak in body but of sound & disposing mind & memory Calling to mind the uncertainty of Life & the Certainty of death do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament revoking all others heretofore made and ordain my will and desire is that my two brothers Samuel & George Reids to have and Equal part of my landed estate in order to do that I will & bequeath to my brother Samuel Reid the two hundred acres of land whereon my brother George now lives also one hundred & fifty acres adjoining the same to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item, I will & bequeath to my brother George Reid all my Interest in the tract of land whereon I now live to him his heirs & assigns forever my desire is to make them an equal division of my land and if they are not satisfied they are requested to make a division as is most agreable to themselves. Item, Whereas Thomas McDavitt by a contract with me is intitled to the possession of the land and plantation whereon I now live for three years my will and desire is that he keep the same the said three years & take care of my mother should she live so long. I wish my sister Melinda to continue with her mother during her life and that the said McDavitt so keep and retain in his possession the two negro men and stock of every kind as they are at present for & during the term as during my mother's life my will & desire is at the death of my mother or at the expiration of said McDavitt term that my brother Samuel Reid have my negro man Thom to my brother Samuel Reid to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item I give & bequeath to my brother George Reid my negro man Justin to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item, I give & bequeath to my sister Melinda her choice from amongst my horses. If either of my brothers Samuel or George Reid feel disposed they are at liberty to take from amongst my horses or any other stock to the amount of one hundred & fifty or two hundred dollars. It is my will that my two brothers be made equal therefore both are permitted to take to the amount of one hundred & fifth or two hundred dollars out of my stock. My will and desire is that residue & remainder of my stock of Every kind be sold by my Executors and such farming utensils as they do not stand in need of - such as the household furnature as may fall to me I wish my two brothers to keep & pay half value for it. Item, whereas I have some money due me by Bonds how much I do not remember I wish it collected and kept as a deposition during my mothers life it may be put at Interest and to furnish her and sister Malinda with any articles they may want. Item, my will & desire is that what money may be due from my estate after mothers death and the payment of funeral expenses that a plain tomb stone be put over the grave of my Father and Mother designating their births & deaths. I also have a sister laying in the grave yard. I wish one in like manner put over her and also one in like over my own grave. I also request my Executors to have enclosed the grave yard for which they are empowered to use fifty dollars out of my Estate the residue & remainder my will and desire is be equally divided in the following Viz four equal parts to my oldest Brother Alexander Reid I will him one lot & to my Sister Jane Shannon's son Thomas Shannon my brother James Reid's son James them two to have the second lott, to my sister Mary Shannon's two oldest Children Samuel Shannon & Ann R. Alexander are to have the third lott, to my sister McDavitt's two oldest Children Viz Thomas McDavitt & Ann Dimwiddie the fourth lott. Lastly I appoint my brothers Samuel & George Reid Executors to this will witness my hand & seal this 23rd day of July 1824.
