Research Notes:
18 Aug 1862: enlisted in Co G 148th Regiment PA Volunteers; serged until
the end of the Civil War [Ref: HarpsterJO HARPSTER p10]
3 May 1863: wounded in the arm at Chancellorsville, VA [Ref: HarpsterJO
HARPSTER p10]
12 May 1864: wounded at Spotsylvania Court House; left for dead on the
field of battle. He fell on his face; his buddy Nathan E Bean turned him on
his back, pulled his cap over his face, and wrote home that he had fallen in
the line of duty and the home folks mourned for him for weeks before they knew
he was still living and in Prison Camp. As was usually the case after heavy
cannonading, a thunder storm followed the battle and blew the cap off his face
and the rain in his face brought him back to life. One of his sisters went
down and brought him home of furlough. After recovery he returned to duty and
served until the end of the war. [Ref: HarpsterJO HARPSTER p10]
