Research Notes:
a charter of Roger Burnard and his (second) wife Margaret for St John's
Colchester suggests that she was a relative of Ralph de Noers of
Northampstead, Hertfordshire. Ralph was the successor of Oilard, a Domesday
tenant of Geoffrey de mandeville; his four-knight fee is entered in Geoffrey
III de Mandeville's Carta in 1166. Postulating a marriage betwen Alice, a
daughter of Ralph de Noers, and Robert fitz Gerold helps to explainthe
circumstances in which the FitzGerolds, originally outsiders to the Mandeville
fief, became an important part of it during the late 1130s and 1140s. [Ref:
