Obituary appeared in New York Times, 2/23/1916:
Mahlon Daniel Thatcher, the millionaire banker of this city, whose estate is
estimated to be worth about $15,000,000, died here today in his
seventy-seventh year. Mr Thatcher was born in New Buffalo, Penn., and received
his education at an academy in Juniata County. In 1865, after the civil war,
he came to this city and became a merchant. Pueblo was then only a camp, and
Mr. Thatcher owned one of the first general stores. He prospered from the very
first, and in 1871 became a banker.
At the time of his death he was President of the First National Banks of
Trinidad, Florence, Mintrose, and this city, in addition to being President of
the National Bank of Bent County at Las Animas, and the International Trust
Company of Denver, where he was also Vice President of the First National
Bank. He was Mayor of this city in 1877, and was a Trustee of Colorado
College.
Mr. Thatcher belonged to the Metropolitan and Republican Clubs of New York
and the Denver Club of Denver. He is survived by hsi wife, one son, Mahlon D.
Thatcher, Jr., and three daughters, Mrs. Lydia Wheeler and Mrs. Lucia Walter
of Chicago, and Mrs. Ada Huntzinger of New York. [Ref: NewYorkNY Times
