husbandman, and always lived in his native town [Ref: Perley HOVEY p16]

freeman Mar 11 1673-4, and held several offices in the town: fence viewer in 1671, surveyor in 1671, tithing man in 1681, constable in 1691 and 1693. [Ref: Perley HOVEY p16]

granted Nov 27 1668 the right to fell trees for a house. This ancient Hovey house stood upon the south side of the river, and was burned Jul 17 1894. It had been untenanted since 1877, its great chimney had been town down, and the building used as a hay-barn. [Ref: Perley HOVEY p16]

selectmen granted Mar 2 1670-1 timber for a neb and axletree. Jan 17 1680 the selectmen granted him liberty to fell some more trees. In 1683 the town paid him three pounds and eighteen shillings "for fetching the boat from ye Island." [Ref: Perley HOVEY p16]

will dated March 18, 1691/2, aged 73, mentions sons Daniel, John, Thomas, Joseph, and Nathaniel; grandchild Daniel, son of dec son James; daughters Priscilla wife of John Ayers and Abigail wife of Thomas Hodgkins [WTM: note that Pope has assigned this will to the son Daniel, where (from the age) it should have been the father Daniel] [Ref: Pope PioneersMA p242]
