Strabon says Orontes was a descendant of Hydarnes, one of the Severn Perses that aided Dareios I in 522 BC. But this opposes the testimony of the pergamienne chronicle that gives Orontes I as a Bactrien. [Ref: Settipani LGA p98]

young age at which he received the satrapie of Armenie indicates it was a family heritage, which cann't be if his father was a Bactrien. [Ref: Settipani LGA p98]
