Listed in the company of Captain John Allen of Franklin Township, (then)
Westmoreland County, on May 14 1782. Also listed is older cousin, Samuel
Byers, son of Samuel Byers Sr. On the roster, the younger cousin is listed as
Samuel Byers Jr, and the older cousin just plain Samuel Byers. In bygonne
years, it was not unusual for Senior and Junior to be used to differentiate
between persons of the same name in the same area whether related or not. In
this instance, the two Samuels were related but not father and son. [Ref: Bell
