Preface
We say it in print, which will not wilt!
No complete biography can now be compiled of the numerous activities he performed during his long and busy life of over eighty-eight years.
He was "only just an ordinary man: the least said the better", as he would have expressed it, yet we have taken this opportunity to perpetuate his memory in the home circle and to mark briefly in this way some of the more important achievements in his active life.
When only a little over four years of age he was deprived of the love of his mother, who departed this life after a long illness. He, too, was frail until quite a lad, yet attended the public school. His penchant for reading history and travels; his farm life; enlistment into the service; pioneer life in the middle west; returning to his native state; activity in civil and religious matters; sober manhood; honesty of purpose and his faithfulness to dury, as he saw it, were among those qualities which all will respect.
We do not bring out this memorial to publicly extol or flatter his memory for it is only fo rhis immediate family, his descendants and a few of his close friends that they may know more intimately the outstanding features in his life and character. It is therefore a pleasure to remember him in this manner on this Memorial Day.
