J. W. (Billy) Edgar, 88, of 215 Elm Street, Claysville, died in Washington Hospital Friday, April 8, 1966, at 4:40 p.m., after a serious illness of five days.
He was born in Sugar Grove, Greene County, March 24, 1878, a son of Thaddeus and Ellen Ankrom Edgar.
He was a member of the Claysville Christian Church, being active as long as his health permitted. Mr. Edgar had served as a deacon and an elder. In later years, he became an honorary elder.
Mr. Edgar, a well known salesman, was employed by George B. Sprowls and Sons Hardware in Claysville for 53 years. He retired in 1955.
He was twice married. His first wife, Bertha Ullom, died in 1931. He was remarried September 2, 1936, to Mabel Ryburn, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Bernice, wife of Wendell Higgins of Monaca, and Hazel, wife of Howard Brownlee of Claysvile; two sons, Harold Edgar and Raymond Edgar, both of Claysville; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Earnest of Greensburg, Jessie, wife of Frank Earnest, Mrs. Alice Earnest and Mrs. Goldie Shaler, all of Cameron, W. Va., and Ida, wife of Jewell C. Hinerman of Hickory; and a brother, Charles Edgar of Claysville.
Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
