probably a sea captain, crossing the Atlantic many times before settling
permanently in Massachusetts [Ref: McCracken COGAN p175]
does not appear as a legatee in father's will (1612), but neither did his
older brother Richard, who surely did not die until 1620. For some unknown
reason, father did not choose to leave anything to his two younger sons,
perhaps on the presumption that their mother would care for them [Ref:

Jul 1 1634: at a meeting of the Massachusetts Bay Council, a complaint
heard of Mr John Cogan and Mr Henry Coggen against John Tilley over money
