remained in this country only a few years then returned to England [Ref:

Savage proposed that the passenger on the Hopewell 1635 was the John
Marshall of Boston. John Marshall of Boston was, however, almost
certainly the man of that name baptized at West Keal, Lincolnshire, on 21
Dec 1615, and so woul dhave been born six years before the 1635 passenger
[Ref: Anderson GreatMigrationII v5p41]
was in service of Edward Hutchinson for a time after arrival [Ref: Kingsbury
MARSHALL p5]
24 Feb 1639/40: "John Marshall, husbandman, having served with our
brother, Mr Edward Hutchinson, is allowed an inhabitant" at Boston. Edward
Hutchinson was from Alford, Lincolnshire, and John had a son named
Christopher; the combination suggests John was related in some way to
Christopher Marshall of Alford, Lincolnshire, who immigrated to Boston 1634
and returned to England after 1639. Christopher Marshall may be a cousin of
Thomas Marshall (1634, Boston) [Ref: Anderson GreatMigrationII v5p33]
Feb 24 1639/40: admitted inhabitant of Boston, and was one of proprietors of
that town [Ref: Kingsbury MARSHALL p5]
