Research Notes:
Entered the Revolutionary army as a captain in the 6th Pa. Battalion, Jan 5 1776; was appointed major of the 8th Pa., Jul 20 1776; and became colonel of the 9th Pa. Line, Jun 7 1777, serving until the close of the war, and retiring with the rank of brevet Brigadier-General. He became major-general of U.S. levies in 1791, and was killed by the Indians at St. Clair's defeat. [Ref: Helm TODD p87]
