Know all men by these presents that I, David Harpster, of the township of
Ferguson, county of Centre and State of Pennsylvania, Farmer, being of ill
health but of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my
last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time
heretofore made.
And as to my worldly estate, and all the property real and personal or mixed
of which I shall died siezed or possessed or to which shall be entitled at the
time of my decease, I devise bequeath and dispose of in the manner follwoing,
to-wit:
First, my will is that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid
by my executors hereinafter named, out of any monies in their hands, as soon
after my decease as they shall find convenient.
Item. I give and devise to my beloved wife Susanna, all the rents and net
proceeds of my farm (if she shall outlive me) during her natural life, also
all the grain that may be in the barn at the time of my decease. I also direct
that she shall have any number of cows, hogs, or poultry that may belong to me
at the time of my decease, also two sheep chosen by herself. I also give and
bequeath to my said wife all my household and kitchen furniture or as much of
them as she may desire, to retain for her own use.
And whereas, my son Alexander now has the farm leased, it is my desire that
he shall continue to farm the land if he wishes on the same terms as formerly,
which are as follows: Viz: He shall pay to my said wife one third of all the
grain raised on the farm to be delivered in the bushel, and any grain to be
sold, he shall deliver at either of the Penna Furnace Mills if desired and if
taken a greater distance he shall be paid for the same, he shall provide
sufficient hay and straw for the cows and sheep above named, also stable room
for all above named, one third of the apples, and one third of the cider made
from the farm shall be given by him to my said wife, the said Alexander
Harpster will not be allowed to cut more green timber on the farm than shall
be used for fencing and firewood.
My said wife shall have as much houseroom reserved as she shall need to
make her comfortable. A potatoe lot shall each year be made ready for planting
for her use by said Alexander Harpster, he shall also pay taxes on the farm,
keep the fences in good repair and the farm in good order. I also direct that
any property my said wife may be posessed of at the time of her death shall be
sold by my executors and the proceeds thereof divided share and share alike
among my children herein named.
I order and direct that upon the decease of my said wife, if she shall
outlive me, my executors shall as soon as possible after her death, proceed
to advertise and sell such real and personal estate as shall belong to me by a
public sale, said executors shall be and are hereby authorized and impowered
to convey and make title to the purchaser of same as if I had done so myself.
I direct that after the proceeds are received of said sale, my executors
aforesaid shall proceed and pay the same to my children named as follows:
to-wit: Frederick Harpster, Catharine Kustenbauder, David Harpster, Elizabeth
Gates, Maria Goss, William Harpster, Mary Ann Ward and Alexander Harpster,
share and share alike, with the following exceptions, to wit:
One hundred and fifty dollars shall be paid to Jefferson Harpster son of
Frederick, the same to be taken out of the share of my son Frederick, to be
paid to my grandson Jefferson Harpster when he shall arrive at the age of
twenty one years.
I also direct that from the share of Catharine Kustenbauder the sum of three
hundred dollars shall be taken and paid to my grandson George Harpster
(sometimes called George Nail) to be paid him at the time of my said wife's
death or as soon as conveniently. I also direct that the sum of one hundred
and fifty dollars be paid to each of my two grandchildren George and Elizabeth
Ward, to be paid to them out of the share of their mother Mary Ann Ward, at
the time they shall arrive at the age of twenty one years.
And Lastly I nominate and appoint my son Alexander Harpster and my
son-in-law Samuel Goss to be the executors of this my last Will and Testament.
In Testimony whereof I, David Harpster, have to this my last will and
testament subscribed my name and affixed my seal this twenty second day of
August, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and sixty six. /s/ David Harpster.

last will and Testament in the presence of us, who at his request and in the
presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereunto.

Personally appeared before me, J. P. Gephart, Register for the Probate of
Wills in and for said County, John S. Rumberger and Charles D. Miller,
subscribing witnesses to the within will, who have been duly sworn according
to law, doth depose and say that they were personally present and saw and
heard David Harpster the Testator sign, seal, publish, and declare this as and
for his last Will and Testament and that at the time of so doing he was of
sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of their
knowledge and belief.
