of the celebrated Anstey Case [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p282, Keats-Rohan DD p677]
heir of his uncle, William de SACKVILLE [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p678]
successfully fought the famous Anstey case in which he alleged that William's
marriage to Adelicia, daughter of Ansfrid the Sheriff, which produced a
daughter Mabel de Francheville and others, was adulterous, William still being
bound by a promise of marriage to Albreda de Tresgoz. Albreda gave a charter
as his widow for St John's, Colchester [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p678]
sued his cousin Mabel de Francheville for the inheritance of his mother's
brother William de Sackville. He claimed that Mabel was illegitimate, and
hence could not succeed her father, because William's union with her mother
Adelicia, daughter of Amfrid le Vicomte, was adulterous, because he had
promised marriage to Albreda de Tresgoz before deserting her. Albreda
protested at William's marriage to Adelicia, though Mabel alleged that in the
end the matter had been sorted amicably, with William returning Albreda's
dower to her father. [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p282]
