five sons who survived infancy, no less than four held separate Peerages (1) Richard, the eldest, Marquess Wellesley, Earl of Mornington, etc, and baron Wellesley, (2) William, Baron Maryborough and Earl of Mornington, (3) Arthur, well-known Duke of Wellington, (4) Henry, Baron Cowley. Had the fifth, Gerald Valerain Wellesley DD (who d. 24 Oct 1848 aged 8) obtained a Bishopric, all five brothers might have had seats together in the House of Lords [Ref: CP III p479(a)]
