1790s: living within 100 yards of Samuel Leslie; the relationship of
Samuel and James Leslie is not clear. The families of Samuel, John, and
James were closely associated in other ways [Ref: Murphy LESLIE p11, Murphy
LESLIE p13]
there is no deed showing Samuel Sr conveying land to his son James; this
fact informs us that in th esettlement of the estate of Samuel Lessley in
1787 it was a family agreement that James, possibly the eldest son,
received this tract of land as his share of his fathers estate [Ref: LesslieSB
LESSLIE p50]
1797: paying taxes on 175 acres of land, no doubt the same 175 acres
purchased by his father in 1767 [Ref: LesslieSB LESSLIE p49]
5 Feb 1800: sold land "being part of a tract of land that Samuel Lashley
had of Robert Caldwell the north side of Waxhaw Creek" [Ref: Murphy LESLIE

1800: sold their farm and left Mecklenburg County [Ref: LesslieSB LESSLIE p49]
sold land to Isom Shirling, 106 1/2 acres, described as "A tract of land
containing 106 1/2 acres lying in said county and state, being part of a
tract of land that Samuel lasley had of Robert Caldwell, the north side
of the Waxhaw Creek, beginning at an ash on Jeremiah Cureton's line and
runs with said line S 78 W 176 poles to a B.O. then S 45 W 231 poles to a
P.O. then N 23 E 82 poles to a doogwood on the branch then along the
various meander of said branch to the beginning, containing 106 1/2 acres
