during the Portuguese civil war supported Queen Beatriz against the Master of Aviz, who as King Joao I confirmed his hereditary possessions in 1392, but subsequently with other disaffected magnates left Portugal for Castile, where he was created Count of Benavente in 1398 byu King Enrique III [Ref: Thompson CharlesII v21-250]
