claimed to be Richard, Duke of York, one of the young princes who were
said to be slain in the Tower [Ref: SP IV p530]
1491: surfaced in Ireland, where he claimed to be Richard Plantagenet,
Duke of York. Afterwards invited to France by King Charles VIII, and in
1492 went to Flanders, where Margaret, duchess dowager of Burgandy, received

1494: Maximillian, King of the Romans, recognized him as King of England [Ref:

Nov 1495: King James IV of Scotland received him at Stirling, and measures

Jul 1497: rebels in Cornwall invited him to land there; was proclaimed
King Richard IV, but was soon captured at Bealieu, Hampshire, by King

made a full confession of his imposture; he was released and kept in the

Jun 1499: made an attempt to escape, but was quickly captured; in 1499
