Research Notes:
Barnim VI and his brothers ruled during a very obscure and poorly documented
period of Pomeranian history. We do not seem to have any document naming his
wife during her lifetime and know her name only from her husband's gravestone
in the parish church of Kenz, as cited by Gulzow; there she is called
"Veronica Friderici Burggrabi Nurinberg, filia, et Friderici, qui primus
Brandenburg, familiae electorali dignitate decorus fuit, sorore susceptos
reliquit." This would make her the sister of Friedrich I, Elector of
Brandenburg, and duaghter of Burggarve Friedrich V of Nurnberg. This is
chronologically possible, and Burggrave Friedrich had at least six children,
but Julius Grossman, after an extensive investigation, reported that he could
find no evidence either that a daughter named Veronica was among them or that
any daughter of Friedrich V and sister of the Elector Friedrich I had married
Barnim VI of Pomerania. Moreover, the gravestone was erected in 1603, which
deprives it of much if not all of its authority. If, therefore, the name of
the wife of Barnim VI was Veronika, a must unusual Christian name for the
period, her parentage is more likely to be found among the noble families of
her husband's own region - it is impossible at this time to speculate as to
which family. Perhaps the Vatican registers or the records of the Bishopric of
Kammin might reveal a dispensation for the marriage. [Ref: Thompson CharlesII
