his relationship to the earlier lord of Callerton, Robert de laval, or to Gilbert de La Val (d.1229) who had succeeded by 1166, is disputed [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p952]

1161/2: appears on the Northumberland sections of the Pipe Rolls answering for five knights' fees, assumed to be in respect to the barony of Callerton [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p952]

1161: answered for the lands of the Barony of Callerton [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p543, Sanders Baronies p109]

1166: stated that he and his ancestors held 2 knights' fees since the time of Henry I; later scutage was charged on 2 knights' fees [Ref: Sanders Baronies p109(6)]
