Research Notes:
Jacob Wilhelm Imhoff, *Genealogiae viginti illustrium in Italia familiarum ...* (Amsterdam, 1710), pp. 314-15, may have originated the false notion that Clarice Orsini, wife of Lorenzo de' Medici, was the bastard daughter of Cardinal Latino Orsini, who was in fact her mother's brother. The correspondence cited by Ross leaves no doubt of the actual parentage of Clarice Orsini. Imhoff's error continues to be perpetuated even today; see, for example, Christian Carretier, *Les 512 Quartiers de Louis XIV (Angers, Paris, 1980), p. 42, nos. 334-35.
