Ransom W. Chase, Attorney, Former Water District Chief
Ransom W. Chase, 78, senior partner in one of Los Angeles' first law firms and a director of the Metropolitan Water District at the time of the Feather River Project was conceived and enacted, has died in Pasadena, it was learned Friday.
Chase, who joined the MWD in 1947, served until 1972 and was a leading spokesman for the $1.75-billion Feather River project in 1960, when voters approved bonds.
He was the son of Lucius K. Chase, who opened a law firm in Los Angeles in 1897 and from whose ranks have come Otto Kaus, a state Supreme Court justice, and Stanley N. Barnes, senior judge of the 9th Circuit Federal Appeals Court.
Chase, who died Monday, became senior partner in the firm, now Chase, Rotchford, Drukker & Bogust, after his father's death. [Ref: Margot Dudewicz 7/28/2005]
