Marie Wood Crystal City, Mo 1932 - 2010
Marie E. (Pope) Wood, born February 1, 1932, in Crystal City, Mo., passed
away at her home Tuesday, March 2, 2010.
Marie was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong choir
member in the many Methodist churches where her husband served as minister.
She loved to travel with her husband and friends to the sites for the
various gatherings of the multiple lodges to which he belonged. They enjoyed
several trips to Europe, Israel, Australia, and various cities in the
continental United States and Hawaii. She loved to garden and can vegetables.
She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many
children for whom she provided daycare. She graduated from Festus High School,
Festus Mo., in 1948.
She married Ronald E Wood, Jr., on April 14, 1951. They were to celebrate
their 59th wedding anniversary next month.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin R. Pope and Nina Belle
(Rudisaille) Pope; her brothers, Milas and Rufus; and her son, Mark.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald; her sister, Elsie Merle Drury of Del
Mar, Fla.; her children: Ronda and husband, Paul Jones, of Springfield, Va.;
Patty and husband, Rev. Tom Plumbley, of Fort Worth, Texas; Steven and wife,
Margaret Wood, of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; and Paula and husband, John Retelsdorf,
of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family
will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory,
where friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Wood will be cremated
following the service.
