appears to be no evidence that he was the son of Thomas Lord Dagworth [Ref: CP IV p31]

in some accountes (e.g. CP IV 27-31, Norf Arch xxxiv 111-18) he is given as son of Thomas, Lord Dagworth, by a marriage supposedly contracted before Dagworth's match with the countess of Ormond, but there is no evidence to support this assumption [Ref: HoP 1386-1421 v2p735(1)]

probably younger son of Nicholas Dagworth (d.1351) of Dagworth, Suffolk, and Bradwell, Essex, and nephew of Thomas, Lord Dagworth [Ref: HoP 1386-1421 v2p733]

1359 to Mar 1359/60: Captain of Flavigny in Burgundy [Ref: CP IV p29]

before Dec 1365: knighted [Ref: HoP 1386-1421 v2p733]

6 Dec 1365: held a responsible post in France. This shows that he was not a son of the Countess of Ormond [Ref: CP IV p29(e)]
