Hocking County Deed K-196, dated 8 Feb 1845:
Know all men by these presents that Jacob Strous of the county of Hocking in
the State of Ohio in consideration of the natural love and affection which I
have and bear to my daughter Mary Flanagam, the wife of Hiram Flanagam of the
County of Ross and State aforesaid and also by way of advancement herein and
hereby made by me the said Jacob Strous to my said daughter the said Mary
Flanagam of a part of and parcel my Estate to the amount of two thousand
dollars (which said sum without interest is to be held to the account of said
sum as an advancement aforesaid if a division may hereafter take place among
my heirs, of my real estate) have given granted aliened and conveyed and do
hereby give grant bargain sell and convey to the said Mary Flanagam her heirs
and assigns forever the following real estate situate lying and being in the
county of Hocing and State of Ohio and being a part of Section No Six (6) in
Township eleven (11) in Range nineteen (10) of the Chillecothe land district
and described as follows to wit: Beginning at a post in the section line And
fifty four and fifty four poles west from the northeast corner of said section
and North West corner to james Spencers land from which a white oak 30 inches
in diameter bears south sizty seven and one half degrees west 60 links and a
gum 15 inches in diameter bears S 35 3/4 degres E 3 links thence with said
Spencers land South West 90 West three hundred fourteen poles to a post in the
road section line and south west corner to said Spencers land from which a
sycamore 43 inches diameter bears North Eleven links and an Elm 15 inches
diameter bears north 87 1/2 degrees East fifteen and one tenth links thence
with the section N 89 1/4 deg W fifty four poles to a post south east corner
to Thomas W. Spencers land thence with said lands N 45 minutes East three
hundred and fifteen poles to a post in the Section line and North east corner
of said Thomas W. Spencers land from which a walnut 18 inches diameter bears
South 67 and 3/4 degrees East 63 1/2 links and a chestnut 12 inches in
diameter bears North 18 degrees East 43 links thence with the section line
South 87 1/4 degres East 44 poles to the place of beginning containing one
hundred and six acres be the same more or less to have and to hold said lands
hereby conveyed with all the premises and every part and parcel thereof with
every of the appurtenances unto the said Mary Flanagam her heirs and assigns
forever. In witness whereof I the said Jacob Strous have hereunto set my hand
and seal this eighth day of February (AD 1845) in the year of our Lord
Eighteen hundred and forty five.

Before me K. H. Dunle one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the County
aforesaid personally appeared Jacob Strous the grantor named in the above deed
of conveyance and acknowledged the signing and sealing of the above deed of
thereof to be his voluntary act and deed and the land thereby conveyed to be
the property of the therein named May Flanagam. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand as Justice of the Peace as aforesaid this eighth day of

Will of Jacob Strous, Hocking County Ohio, Case #163
In the name of God Amen. I Jacob Strous of the County of Hocking in the
State of Ohio, being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and
publish this my last will and testament in mannor and form following, to wit.
My will is that all my just debts and charges be first paid. I give and devise
unto my son Allen Strous my farm whereon I now live situate in the County of
Hocking aforesaid, to wit, One hundred and nineteen acres more or less, off of
the South side of the South West quarter of Section number Thurty one (31) in
Township Twelve (12) in Range Nineteen (19), and the South East quarter of the
aforesaid Section containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less and
containing together two hundred and seventy nine acres more or less. To hold
the same with the appurtenances unto him the said Allen Strous and the heirs
of his body lawfully begotten, which is to be convted(?) to him the said Allen
Strous at Three thousand dollars. As to any residue of the said Allens share
or dividends of my estate, if any there be, my will is that my Executors
hereinafter named retain it at interest and give the said Allen the interest
annually but if the said Allen shall prove to be of a prudent and provident
disposition and conduct my Will is that my said Executors pay him the said
Allen the full share or residue and if on the contrary he shall prove lavishly
prodigal to retain the principal of to the heirs and pay the interest to his
family (if any).
I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Strous the one fifth part of my
While estate to be given so near as may be in lands or real estate and if I
leave no lands undisposed off my will is that my Executors aforesaid purchase
lands to as near the amount of the said Elizabeth's share as may be
practicable or convenient and at as fair price as possible and as suitable as
may be and convey the same unto the said Elizabeth Strous her heirs and
assigns as my executors, the balance, if any of her share not invested in land
to be paid her in money.
As it is my will that each of my Children receive an equal amount of my
estate I charge my Sons John and Samuel and my daughter Mary Flanagan (wife of
Hiram Flanagan) with Four Thousand dollars each advanced to them respectively
without interest in conveying to them respectively of lands and also charging
the said Allen Strous with the devise and bequest as hereinbefore mentioned.
If on a final division of my estate each of the shares of my said heirs shall
not amount to four thousand dollars my will is that those whohave had that
amount advanced refund or pay back so as to make all the shares equal. And if
the several shares shall exceed said amount of four thousand dollars, those
who have received that amount shall receive in addition so as to make them
equal.
And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my two sons John Strous and
Samuel Strous to be the executors of this my last will and testament, revoking
and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming
this and none other to be my last Will and Testament.
In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of
February in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty five.
