In 1854 Jeremiah and his wife, Sarah sold his interest in the Albany Township
property he had inherited from George Gearhart. (See Indenture dated Mar 20,

The following is a transcription of Indenture dated Mar 20, 1854 from Henry
Mull and Jeremiah Hendrix to Benjamin Leininger. The Deed is recorded in
Reading, PA, Deed Book Volume 0061, p 642-3. [Ref: John Hendricks 12/14/1995]
This Indenture, Made the twentieth of March in the year of our Lord One
Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty Four between Henry Moll and Christiana, his
wife and Jeremiah Hendrix and Sarah, his wife All of the Township of Albany in
the County of Berks and the State of Pennsylvania, yeomen of the one part and
Benjamin Leininger of West Penn Township, in the County of Schuylkill and
State aforesaid, yeoman of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Henry
Moll and Christiana, his wife and Jeremiah Hendrix and Sarah, his wife for and
in consideration of the sum of twenty one hundred and fifty dollars paid full
money of the United States of America, unto them, all sell and truly give to
the said Benjamin Leininger at and before the sealing and delivery of these
present, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, Grantor, bargained, sold
aliened, deliver and consign, and by these present, doth grant, bargain, sell,
release, and conferred unto the said Benjamin Leininger and to his heirs and
assigns, all that measurage, tenement and several tracts of land situated and
lying in the township of Albany, aforesaid Bounded and Butted as follows to
viz. No. 1 Beginning at a stone corner of Daniel Hendrix and Peter Knepper
thence by land of the said Peter Knepper, South twenty eight degrees, East
fifty six and eight tenths perches to a stone, thence South forty five and a
quarter degree East sixty five and twelve perches to a white oak corner.
Thence by land of Jacob Knepper South fifty eight degrees West to a apple tree
corner, by the same south sixty two and half degrees West seventy six perches
to a stone, thence by land of George Bolig north fifty degrees, West forty
one perches to a stone. Thence by the same, North fifteen degrees West ninety
eight perches to a stone. Thence by land of Daniel Hendrix, North twenty
three and a half degrees and twenty and one half perches to the place of
beginning. Containing sixty eight acres, one hundred and fifty four perches
neat measure. No. 2 A tract of woodland situated in the township of Albany,
aforesaid bounded as follows: Beginning at a stone corner, Daniel Hendrix and
George Bolig thence by land of the said G. Bolig, North sixteen and three
quarter degrees, West fifty six and eight tenth perches to a post, thence by
land of Peter Knepper on a line West, following the line and distances North
seventy three degrees, East sixty four perches to a stone, North seventy one
and three fourth degrees, East seventy five and eight tenth perches to a
stone, thence South seventeen degrees East fifty two and one half perches to a
stone thence by land of Peter Knepper South twenty three degrees and fourteen
perches to a stone, thence by land of Samuel Hendrix, North sixteen and a half
degrees, West twelve and eight tenth perches to a stone, thence South seventy
three and one half degrees, West one hundred and twenty five perches to the
place of Beginning. Containing Sixty Acres, one hundred and twenty seven
perches neat measure. Thus, the larger part of the premises of which the title
became vested unto Peter Knepper in fee simple, obtained a court deed at the
proceedings of this state's Orphan's Court of the County of Berks and whereas
the said Peter Knepper and Salome, his wife, by their oath, bearing date the
1st day Sept AD 1830, did grant and confirm the same unto Henry Moll and where
the said Henry Moll and Christina, his wife, being of agreement on the back of
said deed bearing date the 22nd November AD 1845, did grant and confirm the
same unto Benjamin Moll and his wife, Sarah. Whereas the said Benjamin Moll
and Sarah, his wife, by law and bearing date the 12th day of April AD 1852,
did grant and confirm the same unto Henry Moll and Jeremiah Hendrix and to
their heirs and assigns (Parties hereto). Reference therein to being land
with full rights and at large appear together with all and for all, the land
and resident buildings, farm timber, barn, stable, water, water rights, all
priveledges, improvements and appurtenances, whatsoever, thereunto belonging
or in any way appertaining, and the Revisions and remainder. Rents hence and
profits thereof: And all the estate's rights, interest property claim and
demand whatever of them, the said Henry Moll and Christiana, his wife and
Jeremiah Hendrix and Sarah, his wife, in law, equally or otherwise heresoever
if and to the same and every part thereof to have and to hold the said
property or tenement & two tracts of one hundred & ten acres, one hundred
eleven perches neat measure to appendements and premises hereby grant a
minimum & intended to so to be, with the appurtenance unto the said Benjamin
Leininger, his heirs and assigns to and for the only proper use and behalf of
the said Benjamin Leininger, his heirs and assigns forever, and that the said
Henry Moll and Christina, his wife and Jeremiah Hendrix and Sarah, his wife
for themselves, their heirs, Executors, and Administrators. Doth by these
presents, covenant, grant and agree to and with the said Benjamin Leininger,
his heirs and Assigns, that they, the said Henry Moll, Christina, his wife,
Jeremiah Hendrix, and Sarah, his wife, and their heirs, all and singular, the
improvements and premises therein above described and granted or mentioned and
intended so to be with the Apportion over unto the said Benjamin Leininger,
his heirs and assigns, against them the said Henry Moll and Jermiah Hendrix
and their heirs, and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever
lawfully planning or to claim the same or any tenit there of by, from, or
under them or any of them shall and will warrent and forever defend. In
Witness Whereof, the said parties to these presents have hereunto
interchangably set their hands and seals; dated the day and year above

Sealed and Delivered in the Presence of Thos. K. _______ , Samuel L.
Kistten, the day of the date of the above written indenture of and from the
above named Benjamin Leininger, the sum of two thousand one hundred & fifty
dollars in gold or silver money. It being the consideration money above
mentioned in full.
Subsequent to the sale of the foregoing property, Jeremiah and Sarah
removed to Tamaqua, PA where they spent the balance of their lives. Based on
the information contained in Jeremiah's Last Will which is reproduced below,
they had no children. The will can be found in the records of Schuylkill

In the name of God, Amen. I, Jeremiah Hendricks, of the borough of Tamaqua,
Schuylkill County, State of Pennsylvania, being in good bodily health, and of
sound and disposing mind and memory, calling to mind the frailty and
uncertainty of human life, and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs,
and directing how the estate with which it has pleased God to bless me, shall
be disposed of after my decease, while I have strength and capacity so to do,
do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and
making null and void, all other last wills and testament by me heretofore
made, And first I commend my immortal being to Him who gave it, and body to
the earth, to be buried without any funeral pomp and with as little expense as
may be, And as to my worldly estate, and all the property, real, personal, or
mixed, of which I shall die seized and possessed, or to which I shall be
entitled at the time of my decease, I devise, bequeath and dispose thereof in
the manner following, to wit. It is my will that all my just debts and funeral
charges shall be paid by my Executrix hereinafter named out of my estate as
soon after my decease as shall be found convenient. Item -- I give,
devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Sarah Hendricks, all the property
consisting of dwelling houses and lot which we now occupy and reside, situated
in the borough of Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, State of Pennsylvania, corner of
Rail Road and Rose Street, together with all my interest of shares or stock
which I hold in the Pennsylvania and North Carolina Gold Mining Company, and
all the household furniture and other items not particularly named, to have
and to hold the said messuage and appurtences thereunto belonging and all the
rents, issues and profits thereof and the said goods and chattels, for and
during her natural life, and at the death of my said wife, Sarah Hendricks,
all the property hereby, devised or bequeathed to her as aforesaid, or so much
thereof as may then remain unexpended shall then be devided into two equal
parts or shares. Item -- I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved neice,
Cordilia Smith, wife of Morris Smith, and daaughter of my beloved sister,
Sarah Hatch, one share or the one-half of said estate, remaining immediately
after the decease of my said wife, to her own use and benefit absolutely, but
in case she shall die before the decease of my wife, then her share or
one-half of the remaining estate I give and devise to her children in common
share and share alike. Item -- And the other share or one-half of the
remaining estate, I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife's relations
such as she shall see fit to name in her last will and testament. Item --
And in case my wife as Executrix shall see fit to sell the real estate for the
benefit of the estate, I do by these presents, give to my said Executrix or
her Executor or Executors, full power and authority to grant, alein, bargain,
sell, convey, and assure all the same, real estate to any person or persons
and their heirs forever in fee simple by all and every such lawful ways and
means in the law, as to my executrix or her executor or executors or to her on
their counsel learned in the law shall seem fit or necessary. Lastly -- I
do nominate and appoint my said wife Sarah Hendricks sole executrix of this,
my last will and testament. In testimony whereof, I the said Jeremiah
Hendricks, have to this my last will and testament contained on this sheet of
paper, subscribed my name and affirmed my seal this twenty-fourth day of
February, A.D. 1879, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine.

The above instrument, consisting of one sheet of paper was now here
suscribed by Jeremiah Hendricks, the testator, in the presence of each of us;
and was at the same time declared by him to be his last will and testament,

This day before me, Richard Rahn, Register for the probate of Wills and
granting letters of administrations, in and for said county, personally came
W. G. Souden and Hiram Y. Briggs, the subscribing witnesses to the above
instrument of writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of
Jeremiah Hendricks, deceased, and who being duly sworn according to law, do
depose and say that they were present and did see the said Jeremiah Hendricks,
the testator therein named, sign, seal, publish and declare the same as and
for his last will and testament, and that at the doing thereof he was of sound
mind and memory to the best of their knowledge and belief.
