Will of George Schwenk (from Will Book A, p458):
In the Name of God Aman, I George Schwenk of Albany Township in Berks
County in the State of Pennsylvania, have Reflected on Mortality, that Man is
taken from the Earth, and must return to the Earth again, Therefore I
recommend my Soul into the hands of God and my Body to the Earth, and divide
my Remaining Property amond my Remaining heirs in manner following---
First I direct that all my Remaining Just Debts and my burial Expenses be
Paid by my Executors, whom I shall hereafter name --
Second, I bequeath unto my loving wife, Maria Catharine the third part of
my Personal Remaining Property, and give unto her full Power when my eldest
Son John takes Possession of my Remaining Estate as his property, that she
shall make her Dower, for her Bodily Support, what Concerns her, to keep one
cow for her support, which shall be kept by my son John in winder Fodder, and
my loving wilfe, Maria Catharine cow shall go with my Son John Cow in the
Summer in his fields, my wife shall have a full right if their is Grass in the
Fence Corners, to cut the same for her cow and my wife Maria Catharine shall
take a cow for her Property, out of my Remaining Cows, and she shall have a
full Right every two y ears to take another cow from my Son John's which she
may choose. This full Poweer which I have given to my loving wife Maria
Catharine, to Settle her own Dower for her Support, shall be Moderate and
accordiRule, and shall Remain firm and Stable as long as she retains my name,
but as soon as She retains my Name no more, Then all the Bequests heretofore
made Shall be Null & void --
Third, I bequeath my Land I shall leave unto my Eldest Son John Schwenk as
his Inheritance and for Ever, for which my Son John Schwenk shall pay in hard
Gold or Silver money 300 pounds unto my three other Children, as their
Paternal Inheritance of the aforementioned 300 pounds my Son John Schwenk
shall pay unto my three Children in Twelve years, the beginning to pay the
first payment unto my Daughter Magdalena Schwenkin shall be on the 27 May One
thousand Eight hundred & five, and the sum of Twnety five Pounds 2nd my Son
John Schwenk shall pay on the 27 of May One Thousand and eight hundred & Seven
Twenty five Pounds, Thirdly my son John Schenk shall pay on the 27 of May One
thousand Eight hundred and Eight unto my son Peter Schenk Twenty five Pounds,
and so my Son John Schwenk shall pay yearly on the 27 day of May twenty five
pounds, to one Child of my Remaining Children According to the Age, until each
of them have received One hundred Pounds of the Paternal Inheritance. But
therewith I give & Bequeath unto my son John Schwenk as Inheritance and for
ever my waggon, and my iron harrow, and my Plough & four Cows & two horsses,
and my wind Mill.
Fourth, I have appointed as Executors my wife Maria Catharine, and John
Knaepper, and that way thing shall be performed Accurate and faithful as above
mentioned I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the 22 Day of January One
