The name BOTELER was derived from the office of Butler, whoch devolved on
the family of Boteler of Warrington after the extinction of the male
issue of Robert le Boteler, Butler to Ranulph de Gernon, Earl of Chester.
This Robert, who founded the Abbey of Pulton, co Chester before 1153,
was possibly the brother, or more probably the cousin, of this Richard [Ref:
CP II p230(a) (with corr in XIV p101)]
