proffered 1,000m for the lands of the Barony of Pontefract, which had been granted to Hugh de la Val [Ref: Sanders Baronies p138]

he proved a turbulent lord and was soon murdered by one of his tenants, a knight named Payn [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p1025]

murdered in 1136, fief of Pontefract came to Ilbert de Lacy [Ref: Sanders Baronies p138]
