before 1765: came to America with two sons, Hugh and Robert. Landed in Philadelphia and headed south to the Waxhaws. Settled in th eWaxhaws on Twelve Mile Creek near the present site of Pleasant Grove, six miles north of the main settlement [Ref: Murphy LESLIE p11]

settled on a 200 acre tract of land located on Leggite's Branch of Twelve Mile Creek and about six miles north of Samuel Lessley and George McCamie. Land had been surveyed for Thomas Ewing 20 Apr 1766 [Ref: LesslieSB LESSLIE p30]
